Messenger Vulnerable
Paperless electronic voting computers are used in India since the election of 2004. They were proven vulnerable to fraud by Hari Prasad, Alex Halderman and Rop Gonggrijp this May, an independent research team. A collaborative paper was written about how easy to tamper with they are, and a demonstration video showed two attacks which are about replacing a small component or using a hardware device to steal or manipulate votes stored in the computer. Like in Germany, in the US and elsewhere around the world, they are flawed.
Shocking fact is: In India you just might get arrested for speaking out. One of the researchers was Hari Prasad, a computer engineer from Hyderabad, who is in jail since August 21, as Rop reports. The charge is 'theft of EVM' (Electronic Voting Machine). Of course, Rop condemns Hari Prasad's arrest as everybody with a brain would.

We come in Peace
Chaos Computer Club (CCC) has issued a call for participation in connection with the December 27-30, 2010 event Chaos Communication Congress (27c3), to be held in Berlin. October 9, 2010 is the deadline for submissions. CCC is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to the free exchange of information on technology and its effects on society.
Anyone tolerant of technical content or desirous of acquiring such knowledge and vibrant hacking experiences is welcome to attend the Congress. Since some potential speakers will also be invited to come to Berlin, I would welcome some recommendations on relevant speakers or projects.
